Summary

Godafrid is one of Elden Ring's many memorable NPC shopkeepers, and their availability early on in Stormveil Castle makes their stock of material components for purchase very useful to crafty players. This walkthrough will cover where to find them and how to complete their questline.

CW for implied dismemberment and accidental death.

Part One: Finding Godafrid
In a far corner of Stormveil Castle, there is a locked door that can be opened using the Storeroom Key. The key can be found in the kitchen area containing a few commoner enemies, just off of the long room containing a patrolling grafted scion.

Inside the storeroom is a single, immobile grafted scion with a nulmber of its limbs sprawled out limply across the ground around it. When first entering the room, the scion will gasp with a start and slowly raise its golden beast crest shield to hide behind.

"..."

After a moment, they will peek around the shield's edge.

"Hm? You? You're..."

Once they finish lowering the shield again, a speech prompt should appear.

"Hello. N-No, it's nothing.
"Who are you? It's been an age since I've seen anyone other than the help or the soldiers. Are- Are we under siege?"

>[Yes.]
[No.]

"...
"Seems awfully quiet out there for a battle. If you're trying to pull my leg, you'll have a hell of a time of it.
"What are you doing here, anyhow? As you can see, this room holds little of value. Unless...
"Well, I suppose I could part with a few odds and ends I've scared up, if you insisted."

[Purchase]
> [You?]

"Oh, I'm just- I'm a bit stuck here, as you may surmise.
"The grafts didn't take. Most of them, anyhow. It isn't all bad, though. The old gatekeeper's kind enough to me, even if the soldiers aren't."

[Purchase]
> [Talk]

"Oh, goodness. My apologies. Flew off on a bit of a tangent there, didn't I? My name is Godafrid.
"Sorry. I'm not very used to introductions. I'm sure you can imagine."

Their store largely contains cheap crafting materials, such as ruin fragments and stormhawk feathers, as well as basic arrows and bolts (check the wiki for their full inventory list and prices).

Part Two
After defeating either the grafted scion enemy disguised as a giant crayfish in Liurnia or the boss version at the Chapel of Anticipation, Godafrid will have some new dialogue (note: even if you defeated this boss upon first encountering it at the start of the game, you’ll still need to warp to the chapel from the Four Belfries to trigger this dialogue and continue the quest).

"Hello. You came back? Did you need something?"

[Purchase]
> [You're different.]

"I take that to mean you've met others.
"(whimper)
"The grafting... You can't imagine what it does to the mind. The pain alone-
"No. Forgive me. You wouldn't want to know, and I wouldn't wish the knowledge of it on anyone else.
"Suffice it to say: I count myself rather fortunate, despite what you may think."

[Purchase]

Part Three
More dialogue will become available after defeating Renala and obtaining her great rune. Having a larval tear in your inventory may also be required for it to trigger (needs testing).

"Hello. You came back? Did you need something?"

[Purchase]
> [Is it possible?]

“Rebirth?
“…
“(sigh)
“It’s a nice thought.
“I can’t even leave this room. How would I ever make the journey?
“No. I appreciate the thought, really, but… It just isn’t possible.”

[Purchase]

Part Four
The next segment of Godafrid’s questline triggers after entering Mt. Gelmir for the first time. If you’ve already been to Mt. Gelmir, simply reloading the area will progress the quest.

Upon approaching the storeroom, you’ll notice bloody streaks on and around the doorframe as well as on the floor leading from the entrance up to Godafrid, who appears to be slumping over even more than before. There should be a speech prompt when you approach them.

“Ngh. H-Hello. You’re back…
“You know, I was thinking about your offer again, about being reborn.
“I-I gave it my best, but I just don’t fit through that blasted door any more. Maybe I missed by chance long ago. Who knows?
“I’m going to think on it some more. Maybe if I just try hard enough, I can come up with something. Just sitting here wallowing is getting to be too much.
“I’m scared. Scared I’ll go the way of the others. I don’t know why out of all of us I’ve been the fortunate one, but it’d be a waste not to try, right? It’d be a waste just to rot away in here. So, I’ll keep thinking for now.
“Sorry, sorry. I shouldn’t bother you with all this, I know. You’ve already been so kind. So, did you need anything?”

At this point, Gostoc will also have some new dialogue, provided he hasn’t moved to the throne room with Kenneth and Nepheli yet.

“Say, you haven’t been rooting around the castle lately, have you?
“Not for nothing. Someone made an absolute mess of one of the storerooms. Not that it matters. Nothing of any value in there anyway.
“All the same, it’s the principle of it.”

He has one more line of dialogue here that you’ll have to talk to him again for.

“Hmph. Suppose not… Forget I said anything.”

Part Five
Defeating Morgott in Leyendell will progress Godafrid’s questline to its final stage.

Returning to Stormveil Castle and approaching the hall leading to the storeroom, Gostoc’s voice can be faintly heard, assuming you saw his dialogue in the previous stage.

“What!? No… Why would you…?”

The bloody smears that showed up in the last stage of the questline will still be there, but a pool of blood will now be trickling out from beneath Godafrid’s slumped, motionless form. Several weapons – mostly swords and axes – matching those on the racks found around the room are now strewn about the floor along with a number of grafted limbs that appear to have been hacked off. Gostoc – again, assuming he’s present – stands before Godafrid’s lifeless body, which has an item visible on it. There should be a prompt to speak with Gostoc, and I recommend you do so before looting the corpse or else you’ll miss a few lines of dialogue.

“You.
“So you knew about this room after all. Was it you, then? Who put these silly, little dreams in his head? We were doing just fine with Godrick finally out of the picture. We were free! But you-!
“…
“Fah! Just leave us be. This castle doesn’t need one more monster.”

Looting the body grants Godafrid’s bell bearing, as well as a single glass shard. Speaking to Gostoc again or attempting to leave the room after taking the items will initiate a final line of dialogue for the quest.

“That doesn’t belong to you!
“…
“Never mind. Take it. Not like it’s of any use to anyone. Forget I said anything.”

Gostoc will return to Godrick’s boss arena after exhausting his dialogue here and reloading the area. Godafrid’s corpse will persist for the remainder of the game.
